🧑🦳👩🦳Our typical referral is an older person who has the potential to improve their language and communication skills, which have recently deteriorated. This may have been due to a recent stroke, expressive/receptive language difficulties, difficulty swallowing or aspiration (when food/fluids go ‘down the wrong side.’)
💁♂️💁♀️Speech Therapy can include exercises in fluency (e.g. minimise stutter), speech (e.g. articulation), language (spoken and written), cognition (e.g. attention/memory) and voice (e.g. tone). Therapy can also include the development of safe swallowing strategies to minimise the risk of aspiration
🤔What age is too late for speech therapy?
It’s never too late to benefit from speech therapy. While early intervention is optimal for addressing communication challenges, adults of any age can benefit from treatment to improve their speech, language, voice and swallowing abilities. Speech therapy is tailored to individual needs, regardless of age, and can lead to meaningful improvements in communication skills!
🦸♂️🦸♀️It’s never too late to learn!
